Basketball
I have had the opportunity to play and coach basketball at numerous different levels. Basketball has had a huge impact on the person I am today. I started playing basketball when I was 4 years old and have been playing ever since. I was a four year varsity player at Longmeadow High School and played two years at Springfield College under legendary coach Charlie Brock. The game has taught me about character, discipline, perseverance, commitment, and a never give up attitude.

Along with playing, I have been coaching basketball and other sports for numerous years. My experience coaching has directly impacted the way I teach.
My Coaching Philosophy:
-
We as coaches focus primarily on the physical skill and not the mental and emotional aspect of the game. If we teach our players the strategies, reads, and adjustments by putting them in authentic situations during practice, our players will be much better suited for the game.
-
I often look at practice as the lesson and the game as the assessment. What do we teach them in practice (physical, mental, and emotional) that will allow for positive transfer of learning in the game (assessment)? How do we adjust our practice based on the statistics of each player and overall result of the game?

"I have had the pleasure of knowing Brendan Abad as a high school senior, a basketball player, a student, and an aspiring Physical Educator and basketball coach. No one exemplifies the adage that hard work and goal setting will pay off more than Brendan. He will be a great asset to the school that includes him in their program."
-Mr. Charlie Brock, Professor of Physical Education and Head Men's Basketball Coach, Springfield College
"I can honestly credit much of the success and growth of our basketball programs here at the JCC to Brendan’s positive representation in the area. He has a passion to keep redefining his potential as a coach and a person which positively impacts those around him. Brendan is a natural born leader."
-Ms. Raychel Setless, Former Youth Wellness Director, Springfield JCC
"Brendan has been an inspiring mentor to my son, both academically and athletically, for the past five years. Brendan has demonstrated for my son that hard work makes good things happen-on and off the court. As a role model, Brendan has consistently and positively reinforced the need to establish goals and to develop strategies to achieve those goals."
-Ms. Kathleen Lingenberg, Mother of former player
